Daily Hair Washing

In the initial stages of my design, I utilized a pencil for sketching, which involved frequent erasing and redrawing. Subsequently, I considered capturing a forward-facing image of myself, showcasing my full hair. However, I momentarily overlooked the option of using my phone for photography, assuming a digital camera was the best choice. Adjusting my plans, I opted to select an online image of a person facing away from the camera with long hair, aligning with my sketch. I then imported both my sketch and the chosen image as templates into Illustrator.

While crafting my design in Illustrator, I used a Wacom tablet to incorporate color, highlight the hair, and add shadows using the blob brush tool. The curvature pen tool was another key instrument in my design process. Although I mainly used my laptop mouse for most design lines and mini-illustrations (assisted by the shape tool), I found it especially useful for rendering intricate details, particularly in the depiction of the hair. To refine shadows to my liking, I utilized the eraser tool. The final touch involved the text tool, used to incorporate all the text in my design, with the title warped using envelope distortion.

The concept behind my persuasive poster design centers around the necessity of daily hair washing. In bold letters, I pose the question to the viewer, "Do you wash your hair daily?" followed by the assertive statement, "You should!" This deliberate approach aims to prompt the viewer to question the importance of this practice. Acknowledging that daily hair washing may not be suitable for all hair types, I included a note stating, "Note: Not for all hair." Given my own experience with oily hair, I emphasized the need for daily washing is necessary for some hair types, and illustrating its impact by noting that one day without washing appears equivalent to 2 to 3 days.

The poster delves into the potential buildup and substances that can be trapped in hair. To visually convey the negatives, I created mini-illustrations for each item, crossing them out to signify their exclusion. Positioned at the center is a character with shiny, clean, volumized hair, reinforcing the positive aspects of daily hair washing. The poster ultimately advocates for the normalization of daily hair washing, dispelling misconceptions and promoting its benefits for everyone.
