My overall approach for this project was getting as close as possible to the subjects/individuals, showcasing my culture, and capturing more portrait-oriented photographs. To initiate the project, I searched online for public events near me that would allow me to obtain the desired pictures. All the photographs featured on this website were taken at Mesa Arts Center during the Day of the Dead celebration. The event included live music, performances, various vendors, and face painting.
I encountered some challenges during this project, such as achieving the perfect amount of light required for black-and-white images and gaining more proficiency in using brushes in Photoshop to minimize harsh sunlight. Additionally, I discovered that people were more than willing to have their photos taken when informed that it was for a school project, which helped alleviate my nervousness.
